Punta Cana - Bavaro - Cap Cana

Close your eyes and imagine more than 50 miles of white sandy beaches and warm clear water, lined with coconut trees and blue skies, combined with the turquoise blue waters offer postcard scenery... Well, this is not a dream, this is PUNTA CANA !!!

These features, together with its climate ranging from 20°C to 30°C in winter, make Punta Cana the most-visited tourist destination in the Caribbean. More than 1.1 million tourists visited the area from January to May 2013, it means the 64% of the whole country.

Located on the east coast of the Dominican Republic and bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, this is where the most luxurious resorts on the island are concentrated, and where all-inclusive is the predominant formula hotels offer. This area offers an excellent hotel infrastructure, an international airport, facilities for all sports from sailing trips to the benefits of some of the best golf courses in the Caribbean, and the pleasure of delicious seafood at the seaside. 

 

Useful Information

The following information could be very useful when planning your vacation and booking a hotel in this area, which is a large area referred to as PUNTA CANA stretching from south to north composed of the following areas:  Cap Cana, Punta Cana, Cabeza de Toro, Bavaro, El Cortecito, Arena Gorda, Macao and Uvero Alto.

 

Cap Cana, where luxury is the watchword. Cap Cana is an impressive and luxurious tourist project known at an outstanding worldwide level for its highest possible exclusivity. Its villas and resorts feature beautiful suites with ocean views and great natural wonders. It has an amazing Marina that annually hosts several national and international fishing tournaments, and the Punta Espada golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and recognized by Golfweek Magazine as the best in the Caribbean and Mexico. This golf course has been hosting PGA tournaments for several years.

 

Punta Cana. It is a little area located close to the International Airport of Punta Cana (PUJ), the leader in terms of passenger flow in the Dominican Republic and second in the Caribbean, with about 250 flights a week during the high season. The resort Punta Cana Resort & Club was the first hotel designed and is currently the principal in this area. Among its owners are the famous Spanish singer Julio Iglesias and the Dominican fashion designer Oscar de la Renta. The tourist can visit the PUNTA CANA Village, located just across from the Airport, which offers a great variety of products and services. Free transportation is offered daily to visitors between 6 a.m. - 12 p.m. A church and an international school are also located close to the village. 

 

Bávaro. Is located just 10 minutes drive from Punta Cana. As hotels started to appear along the east coast, Bávaro was developed internally and has become what is now a town that offers all kinds of services to its residents and tourists. It is very cosmopolitan, due to the different nationalities of the inhabitants. Shopping malls include the Palma Real Shopping Village, a top shopping destination and the largest on  the east coast, located in the heart of Bávaro, and San Juan Shopping Center, where, in addition to gift shops, there are restaurants, fast-food outlets and movie theaters and a large supermarket. If you're spending your holiday in a hotel, transport is free for both centers. Contact your hotel for hours. And of course, either internally or along its beaches, Bávaro has a great range of nightlife in its various clubs and pubs.

 

 

Now you know, if you decide to come as a guest to an all-inclusive resort in the Punta Cana - Bávaro area, remember that you have the opportunity to get to know the typical Dominican lifestyle outside the hotel more closely and also find many more options to buy souvenirs at good prices. Near the hotel you will see the so-called motoconchos (motorcycle taxis), which will be happy to take you to any point for a small amount, but remember to use only those identified with a vest which indicates the area they cover, and never forget to ask the price before getting on. Obviously, being a tourism-based destination, Punta Cana-Bavaro offers a host of activities and events. Below is a list of possible activities and sports you can do during your visit:

It’s not a sport, but if you're planning to get married, you should know that Punta Cana is a destination for many couples because much of its hotels are celebrate marriages. BEACHES PUNTA CANA


They are without doubt the most spectacular of all the Dominican Republic and a testament to them are the millions of visitors who arrive annually on holiday. White sand, clear waters and sun always accompany the tourists.

In general, most resorts line the coast, but if you are a guest at one of them, there are points where you can access the beach via trails or restaurants, and walk through the strips between the hotels without problems.

Where to Go From Here

Higuey, La RomanaAltos de ChavonBayahibe , and Saona Island  are among the closest destinations for tourists, although trips to Santo Domingo  are always available from the tour operators, who will take you to visit the capital, a distance of about three and a half hours by bus.

Did you Know that... the original name of Punta Cana was Punta Borrachón, as it was not very attractive for tourism. Its owner, Frank Rainieri, decided to change it and gave it the name of a nearby area to the south, thus giving it the name by which it is known worldwide today.
