Description
Our City Tour at the capital of the province of Samana will immerse you into the local life and allow you to share memories with its inhabitants. Officially named Santa Bárbara de Samaná, this city founded in 1756 offers the chance to visit a small local market and two different churches as well as the opportunity to do some shopping. We will share about the history and explain some of the Dominican Republic culture. As we walk along the beautiful and scenic 'Avenida la Marina '' we will see the 'Pueblo Príncipe '', a small shopping center that was conceived as a typical and colorful Caribbean village. A stroll along the sea promenade called 'Malecón' will allow you to observe the iron bridge that connects the islets of the bay to the promontory of Samaná; this pedestrian bridge built in the 1970s became one of the city's icons. We will continue our excursion through the center to visit the government's buildings and at the end of the City Tour we are boarding our speed boat or Catamaran to head to Cayo Levantado Island for lunch and beach time we will finish this experience with a stop for your shopping and trying some local homemade bread. The Samaná Peninsula is as coveted today as it was in the 16th century. Pirates hid in its lush, palm-filled forests, isolated beaches, and hidden caves, while European and Haitian troops competed over its deep water, protected bay. Today, Samaná–often abbreviated to refer to the entire peninsula–is well connected by land and air, yet it remains the DR’s secluded, paradisiacal escape of wild beaches, coconut plantations, and rainforests. Its rolling mountains and valleys form the crystalline rivers that feed into the Atlantic, as they cascade toward brilliant white sand beaches stretching hundreds of kilometers all around the peninsula’s rocky coastline. Schedule This is going to be an early morning to pick you up from your hotel and drive you to our meeting point in Santa Barbara de Samana which might take about an hour depending where you are located, when you arrive our local expert will province yout schedule for the day bring you some coffee or natural juice to the table and let you use the bathroom, when we get ready we'll grab the bike and head to Samana Town. First we will visit La Chorcha. This temple is not only an architectural work that has withstood the passing of the years, as it was prefabricated in 1901 and transported to Samaná by ship from England. But it is also a promise of freedom for the Afro-descendants who arrived from the United States, who built it and made an entire life in common around this church, with the phenomena of interculturality. After we will pass by the City Hall of Santa Barbara, meet some of their staff and continue to El Malecon, enjoy the view of the bay before stopping at el Pueblito, this beautiful and colorful architecture designed to be a plaza where restaurants, banks and public offices are, here we’ll have time for a photos before heading to the Whale Museum and Los Puentes Of Samana. The small museum dedicated to humpback whales plays a very important role in local education and during whale season it is a popular stop for people who come to Samaná with the aim of spotting humpback whales, in this case we will learn some facts about them before getting to Los Puentes. The Samaná Bridges are located in the Bay, so they are accessed through the Malecón that borders the Bay of Santa Bárbara de Samaná, Los Puentes are connected to the Islands: Linares and Vigia, witch at end has a white sand beach where we are taking the boat from to get to Cayo Levantado. When we get to Cayo Levantado your fresh lunch will be ready, usually some fish, chicken, white rice, Green Salad and pasta. Drinks will be water or soda as options, after lunch you have free time for swimming. After the island we will take you to a local bakery to try some local bread from Samana province.Includes
