La Cana Golf Club
Dominicanrepublic
Ecology is the keyword at this 18 hole course: setting a new precedent, La Cana Golf Club is the first golf course to use recycled water and organic earthworm castings for fertilization, a part of the Punta Cana Group's environmental efforts through its Punta Cana Ecological Foundation.
In order to achieve consistency, the course features paspalum grass from tee to green. Of the 18 holes, 12 have sea views and four are located at the edge of the aquamarine Caribbean Sea. Golfers must beware of the many deep sand traps, and especially the left-leaning “dog leg” at the 7th hole: this has become known as “the golfer's purgatory” and is one of the most difficult shots on the course.
Known as the “green island”, the 12th hole is short and is guarded by a lake like the well-known TPC Sawgrass 17th hole.
Other features include the clubhouse with stunning views of the beach and 18th hole; and the Punta Cana Gold Academy which is open for lessons all year long.
Play a round of golf before you check into the hotel: it's located just 10 minutes from the Punta Cana International Airport.
