Larimar Museum
Dominicanrepublic
Founded and managed by Jorge Caridad and his wife Arelis de Caridad, Ambar Nacional – Abasa of Santo Domingo's objective is to gather together the most important privately operated educational museums in the country.
The Amber Museum (opened in 1996) in Santo Domingo is the cornerstone of this group, and the Larimar Museum is the second member of this group. It is a showcase for larimar, or blue pectolite, a very rare and unique gemstone.
Using simple and accessible means, this new museum exhibits details, data and specimens of this rare gemstone found exclusively in the Dominican Republic.
The colors of larimar mirror and remind us of the hues of the earth and sea and sky: green, gray, earth tones, white, and a large range of blues including azure, sky-blue and aquamarine.
Visual, tactile, and high-tech methods are used to make the visitor's experience a memorable one.
