Directions to Runners Adventures

Runners Adventures represents the best in safari truck adventures and cultural tours in the Punta Cana area. Because they are trailblazers in the excursion and tour business, they distinguish themselves by offering top of the line transportation, facilities and drivers. Their guides are very experienced and also certified, so they provide adventurers with a memorable tour or excursion experience that is both fun and informative. They offer six unique adventure experiences:

Is their most popular excursion, provides visitors the chance to meet some of the local Dominican people and to learn about Dominican culture. This experience shows tourists how friendly the people are by providing several opportunities to meet them out in their everyday settings. The excursion begins with a tour of a sugar cane field and the trapiche, or sugar mill, showing how tasty local Dominican rum is made. Here the visitor will also learn the proper way of rolling a cigar by hand.

After this, the excursion continues with a fun horseback ride. At the end of this 20 minute ride through the eastern mountain range, tourists visit a Dominican home in one of the vibrant villages. Here they are treated to samples of local products, like organic cacao and coffee as well as fresh fruit. This is followed by a scrumptious local Dominican buffet waiting at the top of Anamuya Mountain. This fun-filled day ends at the fabulous Macao Beach. Here visitors can enjoy riding the waves on boogie boards, or relaxing with a Cuba Libre while listening to the calming sound of the sea.

Runners Adventures is proud to offer the very first zip line tour in the Dominican Republic. Built by one of the most experienced zip line tour builders in Costa Rica, it offers visitors an unforgettable adventure. The tour begins with a 45 minute safari truck drive to the site. Here the highly qualified 'Canopy Guides' provide excellent training on how to use the zip line equipment. Tourists then move to the Welcome Center where they are instructed on safety tips during their adventure. Now they are ready for the first platform where the fun begins, as they 'fly' from platform to platform. The two mile tour across the mountain range includes 16 platforms and 12 different zip lines. Two of the lines are the longest in the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean! Everyone is safely connected to these long cables, including the longest one at 800 meters. Because safety is taken seriously, visitors can relax as they 'fly' high above the verdant tropical forests of Taino Mountain.

Offers visitors the opportunity to learn about some of the people and things that have made Dominicans and the island of Hispaniola famous. For example, visitors will be interested in learning why some of the best baseball players in the world come from Santo Dominigo. Dominican cigars are known throughout the world as the finest cigars. A tour of the museum of the largest factory on earth producing hand made cigar, offers an opportunity for visitors to watch master craftsmen creating the most renown brands of cigars, like Romeo y Julieta, and Montecristo.

The excursion continues with a tour of Altos de Chavon, a famous village of artists and artisans. At the Regional Archeological Museum, visitors can view the incredible Taino exhibit, and finish off by doing a little shopping. This is followed by a memorable riverboat trip on the celebrated Chavon River with its spectacular scenery all the while listening to tropical music. On the riverboat, a sumptuous lunch of grilled lobster is provided, while the tour passes by stunning views of tropical landscapes along the river. Apocalypse Now and Rambo II are but a few of the well known international movies that have been filmed along this river. A visit to the Basilica de la Altagracia is also a worthwhile experience.

Santo Domingo prides itself with its reputation as the very first city of the new world. Runners Adventures provides an interesting tour where visitors have the opportunity to explore the history and heritage of the old Colonial Zone of the city. Here are found many interesting museums and monuments, as well as the first Cathedral of the Americas. The Museo de las Casas Reales is especially fascinating because it gives the visitor a glimpse into the life of the Spanish conquistadors.

Is a first class tour designed to give the visitor a taste of the best of what the Dominican Republic has to offer. The tour starts in a local Dominican house with a sampling of the finest organic cacao and coffees. This is followed by a visit to the Basilica de la Altagracia in Higuey. A fabulous grilled lobster buffet awaits adventurers on board the barge that floats down the Chavon River, all accompanied by local Dominican music and stunning tropical scenery. This same spectacular landscape was the location for the filming of such well known movies as Apocalypse Now and Rambo II. The tour also includes visits to the Dominican Republic's largest sugar cane plantation, and also a stop where tourists will learn how cigars are made. The Dominican Republic is world famous for its incredible cigars, and here visitors can learn about the history of tobacco and cigar making.

The Caribbean is famous for stories about buried treasure. Fortunately at Higuey, the treasures of local arts and crafts are not buried and are easy for the visitor to find. This tour is designed to help tourists see the best arts and crafts in the Dominican Republic, as well as to observe how the locals shop for their everyday needs. The tour also includes a visit to the Basilica de la Altagracia, the Dominican Republic's largest and most important place of worship.
