The name Balicana comes from the word Bali - this is where the chef and owner, Sinuhé Socarras and his wife Patricia (both from Colombia) started to create his delicious Southeast Asian dishes - and the words Dominicana - Punta Cana, where the restaurant is located.
Several things work together to make the dining experience at Balicana so special. Exotic flavors are adapted to the Western taste; the prices are affordable but the quality of the food remains high; and the garden setting provides a natural and relaxed ambience.
The vast majority of the dishes at Balicana are prepared in a wok, the famous and historic Asian pan made of cast iron. The huge variety of ancient sauces, flavors, textures and ingredients that comes from one of the oldest cuisines in the world makes these dishes unique and distinct. The reduced use of fat and the high use of vegetables makes this a healthy diet, low in calories and high in vitamins.
Balicana offers a variety of Asian cuisines including Chinese, Thai, Malay and Indonesian. The extensive menu is further enhanced with dishes from Vietnam and Japan .
