Description

Immerse yourself in the heart of the Dominican Republic with this cultural excursion to Boca de Yuma, a jewel still untouched by mass tourism. From Bayahibe or La Romana, set off for an authentic and soothing day to discover traditions, tropical nature, and local Dominican life, far from the beaten track. Your day starts in the morning, with an air-conditioned taxi departure from your hotel. The journey takes you through beautiful countryside before arriving in the artisanal area of Bayahibe, known for its dream beaches, but also for its local know-how. You'll discover two workshops emblematic of Dominican heritage: an artisanal coffee factory, where the beans are roasted and transformed in a fragrant and warm atmosphere, then a cigar factory, where artisans will show you the traditional art of rolling, a legacy of Taino and Spanish cultures. The road then continues southeast towards Boca de Yuma, a peaceful fishing village perched on a cliff overlooking a turquoise bay lined with coconut trees. You'll visit the Ponce de León Museum, the former colonial home of the famous Spanish conquistador, with its coral walls, ancient frescoes, and spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea. This place, steeped in history, will plunge you into the heart of the New World's past. Lunchtime is approaching: settle into a panoramic restaurant suspended above the sea, where you'll enjoy a local seafood meal with lobster (outside the breeding season), freshly caught and grilled on the spot. In the afternoon, hop on a peaceful ride on the Yuma River, aboard a small, typical boat led by a local captain. The boat will take you between mangroves, limestone cliffs, and lush vegetation. If conditions allow, you'll stop in a small hidden cove, accessible only by sea, where time seems to stand still. You'll discover a secluded rural village, inhabited by families living to the rhythm of nature and tropical trees. This moment of sharing and authenticity will remain etched in your memories. On the way back, you'll stop in Benerito, a typical Dominican village. You'll discover local life through its lively market, baseball field, and picturesque church. Before heading back, a last stop at a traditional colmado will immerse you in the friendly atmosphere of the locals over a cold beer. At the end of the day, you'll head back to your hotel, your heart full of memories. This tour is a real immersion in the Dominican soul, between culture, history, gastronomy, and human encounters.
