Description
Escape the city and immerse yourself in the historical and natural beauty of Los Haitises National Park. Kayak through mangroves, hike through the rainforest, and swim in the natural pools of Playita Las Almejas. Visit the Cave of the Line and learn about the Taino culture.
Start your day with a 30-minute hike through the Los Haitises Trail. See different species of endemic plants and birds. After hiking, return to the boat and ride to Playita Las Almejas where natural pools are located.
Navigate through the mangrove forest and the coast of San Lorenzo Bay. Learn about the geology and the mangrove species. Paddle to the Cave of the Line with your guide. The rest of the staff will wait for you until you finish the first part of the activity.
Visit the Old Las Perlas Port, one of the first structures built by Europeans in the area in 1876. This was connected with a train line that was the transportation for the coffee, bananas, and everything this group of Europeans was farming in what is today Los Haitises.
In the cave, see more than 1200 pictographs painted by the Tainos. This was a way to express themselves, and today this art tells stories that were thought to be lost. On the way back, see a few species of mangroves and learn about the importance of the mangrove forest for the ecology as an ecosystem.
After kayaking and swimming, have a break to enjoy a local lunch. After lunch and some swimming at Los Haitises National Park, head back to the meeting point.
