Description
This full-day ecological tour explores Los Haitises National Park along the northern and northeastern coastlines of the Dominican Republic. It suits nature lovers and those interested in history and wildlife.
The tour starts early in the morning with a bus departure from Bayahibe or Punta Cana. A breakfast stop is made in Miches before continuing to Sabana de la Mar. From there, board a boat to navigate the Caño Hondo River through Los Haitises National Park.
Admire the karst landscape featuring extensive mangroves, habitat to over 100 bird species, and the distinctive mogotes, which are 30-meter high rock formations emerging from the water. Visit two caverns displaying petroglyphs and pictographs, ancient rock art left by the Taino civilization.
After the river tour, return to the pier and transfer to Paraiso Cano Hondo ecolodge, located within the park’s jungle. Here, enjoy a traditional Dominican lunch and the chance to swim in natural pools.
The journey continues to Montaña Redonda, where a safari truck takes you to the summit. Positioned between Laguna Limón and Laguna Redonda, this spot offers panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Eastern Cordillera mountains to the west.
Return by bus to Bayahibe in the late afternoon.
