Description
Embark on a breathtaking multi-day adventure as you ascend Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean. Over this immersive three-day hike, traverse lush jungles, mossy forests of pine, ebony, and mahogany, high-altitude camps, and sweeping vistas few get to see.
Begin with a transfer from the base to the Manabao swamp, where the trailhead awaits. The first leg is a 4-km (about 2.5 miles) hike through verdant, rainforest terrain. Halfway through, pause to rest and recharge, before arriving to La Compartición, a remote mountain camp situated around 2,450 metres (≈ 8,000 feet) above sea level.
On the second day after a hearty camp breakfast, the real climb begins: about 13 kilometres (8 miles) up to the summit of Pico Duarte at roughly 3,087 metres (10,127 feet). En route, take multiple breaks, enjoying the rich forest environments and fauna. The summit delivers spectacular panoramic perspectives across the Antilles—a reward for the effort. After reaching the top, the descent brings you back to La Compartición, where you’ll dine and rest for the night.
Day three opens with breakfast at camp, then retracing steps downward to the Manabao swamp. A picnic-style lunch in nature wraps up the trek, followed by transport back to the starting location in Jarabacoa. Expect to arrive late afternoon.
Accommodation is provided for two nights in a rustic mountain camp. Meals include 2 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 2 dinners, all eaten outdoors or in the camp. The trip also provides essential gear, including sleeping bags and camping equipment, plus a pack mule or horseback option where needed. Transportation from Jarabacoa and all National Park entrance fees are included.
