Description
Get to know Santo Domingo through the food that is part of the daily life of its residents. During this walking tour, you'll enjoy a Dominican meal, juices, sweets, fruits, and other small food tastings while visiting shops, markets, and streets where locals shop, eat, and go about their daily routine. It won't be a succession of restaurants or a food tasting prepared solely for visitors. We'll share the food in simple, active places, surrounded by the real atmosphere of the city. I'll explain what you're tasting, how foods are usually combined, and what you can look for later on your trip. We'll start near Parque Rosado with a full meal at an establishment frequented by people who work and live in the area. This first stop lets you learn about a typical Dominican meal and take in the variety available during the day. Then we'll visit a shop that offers sweets, drinks, and products from different parts of the country. You'll be able to sample some flavors while we talk about the ingredients, regional specialties, and products that Dominicans usually buy, give as gifts, or take with them when they travel. We will continue to Chinatown, where we will make a short stop to eat and learn how the Chinese community became part of the commercial and gastronomic life of Santo Domingo. The route continues around the Mercado Modelo. Although the building is currently known for its souvenir shops, the most interesting food activity continues in its nearby streets. There we will see fruits, vegetables, foodstuffs, herbs, spices, and condiments used in Dominican cuisine, as well as taste fruits depending on the day's availability. We'll finish by walking along El Conde Street. Beyond the recent restaurants aimed at tourism, you'll get to know some of the places and types of businesses where Dominicans ate before the tourist transformation of the Zona Colonial. You'll also receive personal recommendations to continue exploring local food after the tour. The experience maintains the same route and purpose at its different times. The selection of foods may change depending on the time, freshness, and availability, allowing us to offer products appropriate for each time of day without turning it into separate experiences. This is a local food tour, not a gourmet or luxury experience. We'll visit simple establishments and bustling shopping areas. The value lies in trying the food in its context, gaining a better understanding of everyday life in Santo Domingo, and finishing the tour with greater confidence to continue eating local food on your own.Includes
