Description
Start your journey with a transfer from Boca Chica to Sabana de la Mar. The tour begins at Caño Hondo port, where you will hike for about three hours through the humid forest of Los Haitises National Park. Discover medicinal plants and observe the primary and secondary broadleaf rainforest as you reach the Jivales River spring, which feeds the natural pools at the Eco-lodge Caño Hondo.
After hiking, you will receive all necessary safety equipment, including life jackets, before kayaking through mangrove swamps filled with birds and surrounded by lush vegetation. Paddle through mangroves to San Lorenzo Bay, where you can photograph the rugged limestone hills that give the park its name. 'Haitises' means highlands or hills in the Taino language, reflecting these geological formations. The kayaking section lasts approximately two hours.
If preferred, there is an option for just hiking or just kayaking, with kayaking tours available for two or four hours.
The tour concludes back at the Los Haitises National Park starting point. Early morning departures are recommended for the best chance to see manatees, crustaceans, and dolphins.
